Natural Remedies for Seasonal Allergies
Hello lovelies!ย Got your head in the flowers?ย Sure feels like we do!ย We’re not sure what plants are blooming but they must be big and beautiful because we’re sneezing and sniffling over here!
The Las Vegas valley can have some pretty gnarly air.ย We have a test site near by, city traffic, and a wide array of native/non-native desert plants and trees all tucked into a valley.ย All of these irritants can cause the immune system to over-react. It will release many chemicals, such as histamine, in response to these “invaders”.
What can you do to relieve these seasonal allergies?ย Unfortunately, over-the-counter allergy medicines may cause unwanted side effects.ย Luckily, you can try natural options first to see if they can lessen the severity of your allergies.ย Nature has your back–as always! Take it from the bees with these natural remedies for seasonal allergies!
Local Bee Pollen
One of the best avenues to explore natural remedies for seasonal allergies is by consuming small amounts of local bee pollen every day.ย There is a theory that taking local bee pollen will help de-sensitize your otherwise over-active immune system from the local pollen that the bees have collected.ย That could be true but there’s more to the story.ย This may be contingent on the type of pollen the bees collected.ย You may not have allergies to those specific plants.ย The other benefit of Bee pollen is that it is beneficial to the immune system! It is jam packed with vitamins, minerals and protein.ย Some say it is “the perfect food.”ย This is why we think it is something worthy of trying out, as long as you are not allergic to bees or bee products.
Most natural food stores carry local bee pollen or honey for this specific reason.ย We haveย Annsley Southwest Bee Pollenย and Honey,ย which is collected courtesy of the bees in our local Mojave Desert.
Here is a quick and video about how and why bees collect pollen.
How to Use Bee Pollen for Allergies
Start off by eating a few granules of local pollen to see how your body reacts to the pollen and slowly increase the amount of granules each day.ย The amount you take will be dependent on how severe your allergies are– gradually increase up to one or two tablespoons p/day.ย A little bit goes a long way!
You can also let them dissolve under your tongue, chew them, or mix them in warm water or warm tea.ย Allow the tea to cool a little before you stir the bee pollen in.ย Be careful to preserve all the nutrients from the pollen.ย ย If you do not feel relief right awayโstick with it, you most likely will over time. This will be especially beneficial for the next season of allergies that roll in.ย You have to give your body time to adjust and acclimate to all the different types of pollen those busy bees collected along their way.
**Re-Cap:ย ย Bee Pollen has the ability to boost the immune system and help the body respond better to the perceived “invaders.” Even if the pollen may or may not include the pollen that you may specifically be allergic to it is still beneficial to the body.
Local Honey
A more delicious alternative to the local bee pollen isย local honey!ย ย It is very convenient because honey goes great on almost everything!
How to Use Local Honey for Allergies
About a teaspoon or more a day of local honey will be similar to taking a little bit of bee pollen.ย Your body will begin to build a tolerance to all the different types of pollen in the honey. Hopefully, this will help lessen the severity of your seasonal allergies!
ย **Bonus-Put the bee pollen on a spoon full of honey to double up on boosting your immunity to allergens!
Las Vegasย Allergy Mix
This is a specialized Las Vegas homeopathic formula.ย It encompasses some of the most common types of pollen that most people are allergic to in the Las Vegas area. In homeopathy, like treats like.ย ย This is a similar idea to eating local bee pollen.ย Although, with this formula, you know exactly which small amounts of pollen that are in it.
Some people will feel an immediate relief from allergy symptoms after taking it.ย Others may need to take it continuously to build it up in their system depending on severity of allergies.ย Useย 10-15 drops of theย liquid Las Vegas Allergy Mixย under the tongue for 10 seconds and then swallow it.ย You may take it up to 6 times per day depending on need. It is also available inย chewableย tabletsย (no alcohol- better option for kids) andย nasal sprayย (great if your experiencing discomfort in the sinus cavities).
Other Natural Remedies for Allergies
Stinging Nettleย helps lower the symptoms of hay fever and allergies because it reacts with the receptors and enzymes that would normally trigger allergic reactions and raise histamine levels.ย ย Quercetin & Bromelain can both be effective for relieving symptoms of allergies.ย Quercetin is a super anti-oxidant found in leafy greens and other vegetables.ย It can help stabilize the release of histamine from certain immune cells.ย This results in decreased symptoms like coughs, watery eyes, runny noses, hives, swollen lips or tongue, and indigestion symptoms. Couple it with bromelain to increase the absorbency of quercetin and you have yourself a powerful duo that will help lower inflammation in the whole body. ย Aller-Freeย is an allergyย fighting formula that contains stinging nettle, quercetin, burdock root and enzymes.ย All of these together will help lower histamine levels and lower allergic reactions in the body.
Other Vitamins likeย Vitamin D3ย andย Vitamin Cย can be helpful as well because these two help boost the immune system! If you focus on supporting yourย immune systemย as well asย liver health,ย you can mediate the severity of seasonal allergies as well as other ailments (bonus!).
**Re-Cap:ย When using natural products to assist with allergies, consistency is KEY! Keep that immune system running strong.ย ย Bee healthy, bee consistent, bee ELITE!
